Can Hypnotherapy Help With Intrusive Thoughts?
Learning to respond differently to unwanted thoughts

Intrusive thoughts are unwanted thoughts, images or impulses that can appear without invitation. Having an intrusive thought does not mean you want it to happen or that it reflects your character.
The more frightening or unacceptable a thought feels, the more attention it can attract. Attempts to force the thought away can sometimes make it feel even more persistent.
Therapeutic work can focus on reducing the fear and emotional reaction associated with intrusive thoughts rather than trying to eliminate every unwanted thought.
If intrusive thoughts are severe, persistent or associated with compulsive behaviours, an appropriate mental-health assessment may be important. Hypnotherapy should not be presented as a replacement for specialist treatment where that is required.
