What Is Imposter Syndrome?

Why successful people can still feel like frauds

Imposter syndrome describes a pattern in which someone doubts their abilities and fears being exposed as less competent than others believe them to be.
Someone experiencing it may dismiss achievements as luck, compare themselves constantly with others or feel they must work excessively hard to prove themselves.
It can occur even when there is substantial evidence of competence.
The underlying issue is often not a lack of ability but the way achievement is interpreted.
Therapy can help challenge unhelpful beliefs about competence, worth and failure while developing a more balanced view of personal strengths and achievements.
